An Aromatherapy Facial – The Perfect Summer “Get-Away”

Your sense of smell is one of the most important ways you gather information about your world. Smells can conjure delicious memories of childhood or remind you of an unpleasant experience. It is said that one of the ways we are attracted to people is by their scent…and whether or not that is true, “aromas” and ”aromatherapy” are definitely trending in the world skin-care. At Ageless Med Spa, we offer a relaxing Aromatherapy Facial. Read on to learn more.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils – concentrated extracts from the blossoms, seeds, leaves or roots of plants – for healing. The oils can be inhaled or massaged into the skin as an alternative treatment for infections, stress, and other health problems. Some oils are used to promote physical healing; others may enhance relaxation or make a room smell pleasant. There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties. Orange blossom oil, for example, is thought to be calming. Essential oils have been used for therapeutic purposes for nearly 6,000 years, but aromatherapy did not become popular in the US until the 1980s.
It is not entirely clear how aromatherapy works. Some experts believe our sense of smell plays a role. The “smell receptors” in your nose communicate with parts of your brain (the amygdala and hippocampus) that serve as storehouses for emotions and memories. When you breathe in essential oil molecules, it is believed they stimulate these parts of your brain and influence your physical, emotional, and mental health. Aromatherapy massage is a popular way of using essential oils because your skin absorbs the oils and you also breathe them in. And you experience the benefits of the massage itself. There isn’t positive evidence that aromatherapy can prevent or cure a specific disease, but it may help improve your general well-being.
For our aromatherapy massage-facials, we customize our basic facial with a blend of essential oils and massage. The aromatherapy facial encourages your skin to rejuvenate and rehydrate. It also improves muscle tone in your face, and of course, it is deeply relaxing.
