IPL Is The Perfect Solution For Age Spots

Life in our great state provides many opportunities to spend time outdoors…every season of the year. But spending more time outside means more exposure to the sun and its attendant age spots. These spots tend to appear on skin that has had the most cumulative exposure to the UV and UVB rays of the sun, and can be found on the face and neck and the back of the hands. They are small and flat but sometimes they group together making them appear even larger. Age spots are usually harmless but they can be a tell-tale sign of premature aging of the skin, called photo-aging, which results in skin spots, freckles, discoloration, deep wrinkles and dry skin.
At Ageless Medical Spa we have the perfect solution for age spots. It’s called Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) or PhotoRejuvenation.
Here’s how IPL works:• IPL therapy is unique and differs from traditional laser therapies in that it delivers multiple wavelengths of light with each pulse of the laser. It is non-ablative – it does not remove the top layer of the skin.• The area to be treated will first be numbed with a soothing cream. Then the IPL hand-piece is heated up and gently pulsed over the area of treatment, destroying skin cells that contain the targeted pigment. The light penetrates the skin, destroying the melanin-producing cells. The generated heat impairs the vessels or lesions without damaging the surface of the skin. Once these cells have been destroyed, they flake off or are absorbed by the body.• Each treatment takes 30 to 90 minutes depending on the condition being treated and the size of the site. IPL can be repeated as often as every three to four weeks; it usually takes from three to five sessions to entirely clear age spots. Discomfort is minimal and there is little or no downtime. Following treatment, your skin will appear smoother with a more even texture.• This procedure also helps our patients correct rosacea and hyper-pigmentation.
