FDA OK’s New Procedure to Battle a Double Chin

KybellaWe all know that there are certain parts of the body that refuse to slim down, regardless of how much you diet or exercise. Think pudgy knees and love handles and you’ll understand exactly what we’re talking about. Those with a double chin can appreciate the situation, as well.

In a recent study by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, more than 70% of those surveyed identified the chin and neck as an area of “top concern.” If no amount of facial exercises or perfect posture can help slim down your double chin, don’t fret! The FDA has just approved a new shot, which can help.

Kybella, which is expected to be available sometime this summer, is a form of acid. When this substance is injected into the body it attacks the outer membranes and penetrates fat cells, ultimately causing them to burst. The result? No more double chin or turkey neck!

People are excited about this procedure as an alternative to liposuction. Kybella injections may take 5-15 minutes to complete, and the recovery is much quicker. Like other injectable procedures, most people can return to work immediately after the procedure. In rare cases, patients may experience bruising and swelling, but those issues typically resolve in just a few days.

The FDA has approved up to 50 injections in a single treatment, and up to six sessions scheduled at least one month apart. Perhaps the best news is that once the procedure is performed, patients should not require ongoing injections to maintain the results.

No pricing for the product has been released yet, but we fully expect pricing will be similar to other treatments in the injectable category.

We’re carefully watching the release of this product as we consider whether to offer it in the future. What do you think? Would you try an injection to get rid of a double chin?

If you have questions about this new procedure, or any other procedure, we’re happy to discuss!
