What is Xeomin?
To address the unwanted effects of aging on the face, many of our patients in Salt Lake City receive Xeomin treatments. Derived from a strain of a toxin called incobotulinumtoxinA, Xeomin is approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles, specifically those found in between the eyebrows. The toxin contained in the substance is made from the same bacteria that is responsible for botulism. However, when given in very small amounts by a qualified, experienced professional, Xeomin effectively blocks nerve activity in the muscle, reducing wrinkles and facial creases.
What does Xeomin treat?
Our facial rejuvenation experts at Ageless Medical Spa provide Xeomin injections to patients who want to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines in between their eyebrows. Similar to Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is FDA-approved for the correction of facial wrinkles. It is also used to improve the appearance of crow’s feet and wrinkles on the forehead.
How does Xeomin differ from Botox?
Botox, which is also derived from the botulinum toxin, has many of the same benefits as Xeomin. However, the two also have several differences. Unlike other available neurotoxins used in cosmetic treatments, Xeomin does not have any other additives, only botulinum toxin type A. This means that there is less risk in developing antibodies that could possibly fight against Xeomin. Nonetheless, it is comparable to Botox in terms of results. Its effects can be seen within one week following injection and usually last from three to six months.
What side effects can I expect from a Xeomin treatment?
Our patients report side effects occurring at the injection sites or nearby areas. These may include pain, bruising, redness, and infection. Although rare, the treatment can also cause dizziness, headache, nausea, and respiratory infections like the flu or a cold. This is why it is important to choose a reliable facial rejuvenation facility when considering this treatment.
How do I prepare for my Xeomin appointment?
Before undergoing the treatment, it is important to make your doctor aware of any substances or ingredients that you are allergic to. Xeomin may contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions and other conditions. During your initial appointment with one of our Xeomin experts at Ageless Medical Spa, your medical history will be discussed, and you will receive pre-treatment instructions. Such instructions include limiting the intake of alcoholic beverages and arranging for someone to drive you home immediately after your treatment.
What happens during my Xeomin appointment?
Xeomin is injected directly into the affected muscle. Session are recommended to be spaced at least three months apart. The effects of these injections are temporary and last three to six months. Repeat injections will be needed to to lengthen the time before signs of facial aging start to return.
