Sculptra

What is Sculptra?
The skin loses its natural volume due to aging, stress, and other factors. At Ageless Medical Spa our patients rely on Sculptra to return that volume to the face and improve facial contour. Sculptra is an FDA-approved dermal filler used to restore a patient’s youthful facial contour as well as replace the lost volume and fat in particular areas of the face. Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic, biodegradable substance, so it does not require any skin testing for allergic reactions.

What does Sculptra treat?
Sculptra is used to naturally recontour the face and achieve softer, younger-looking skin. This dermal filler works by triggering collagen buildup beneath the skin’s surface. Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein in the body that is responsible for providing hydration and volume to the skin. The treatment plumps up hollow cheeks, temples, and chins. It is also effective for patients who have poorly defined jawlines, bony cheekbones, and nasolabial and melolabial folds.

What makes Sculptra different from other dermal fillers?
Ageless Medical Spa has qualified injectors that can administer Sculptra treatments to individuals who want to add volume to hollowed and grooved areas on their faces. Aside from this, the dermal filler may be used to “lift” the face and eliminate wrinkles that have formed due to the loss of facial volume. In comparison, Juvederm and Restylane, two other types of dermal fillers, generally fill specific facial lines and wrinkles using hyaluronic acid. Choosing between hyaluronic acid fillers and Sculptra often boils down to how much volume replacement is desired, as well as the patient’s age and maintenance issues.

Can I see immediate results from Sculptra?
The effects of Sculptra are not immediate, so patients need to be patient for their results. What you will notice after your first session are common side effects, such as swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute the filler. The swelling dissipates after a few days as the water is absorbed by the body. However, it may take a few weeks to notice significant changes in the problematic depressions in your skin.

How many Sculptra sessions will I need?
The appropriate number of Sculptra sessions and the amount of filler you will need per session depends on the severity of your facial fat loss. Severe facial fat loss typically requires three to six treatments to achieve maximum results.

How long will the results from my Sculptra treatment last?
A clinical study showed that Sculptra results usually last up to two years, although the duration varies for each individual. Additional touch-up treatments may be recommended to achieve or maintain desired outcomes.

What happens during my Sculptra session?
Your skin will be cleansed and prepared for the injections. Using a very thin needle, the dermal filler is then injected in small amounts into particular areas of your face to achieve the desired facial contour. The treated sites could swell immediately after the injections, but this can be alleviated by applying an ice pack to the areas.
