What is Dysport?
Wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of skin aging inevitably appear on our faces over the years. Because of this, more and more women seek dermal fillers and other cosmetic options to restore the youthfulness of their face. One of these cosmetic treatments is Dysport. This is an injection treatment that contains abobotulinum toxin A, a bacteria derived from the substance that causes botulism. When given in very small amounts by our professionals here at Ageless Medical Spa in Salt Lake City, the treatment diminishes wrinkles and restores a youthful glow.
What does Dysport treat?
Dysport is the treatment of choice for individuals who are bothered by frown lines. It temporarily improves the look of moderate to severe frown lines, especially those found between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines.
How does Dysport differ from Botox?
Although Dysport functions the same way as Botox, research reveals that Dysport may provide longer-lasting effects and act faster than its counterpart. It also has the ability to spread farther from the site of treatment, broadening the area that can be treated. For this reason, it is even more important to seek the treatment only from a qualified professional who can skilfully apply Dysport only to the particular muscles that need relaxing.
How does Dysport work?
Dysport is for patients who have dynamic wrinkles, or the creases that appear whenever your face moves. Dynamic wrinkles will only disappear once the facial movements stop. Over time, these wrinkles gradually turn static or permanent due to loss of skin elasticity. When injected directly into these muscles, Dysport is able to immobilize them temporarily. Unlike Botox, Dysport is able to diffuse a bit farther from the point of injection, which means fewer injections are needed to achieve the desired results.
What can I expect from my Dysport treatment?
Dysport treatment involves injections made directly into the affected facial muscles beneath the facial lines. Three to five injections are usually needed to correct glabellar lines. Although most of our patients in Salt Lake City find the procedure painless and tolerable, a numbing cream may be requested before treatment starts. Each Dysport session usually takes 15 minutes or less. However, it will take a few days for the muscle to fully relax and deliver optimal results.
How long do Dysport results last?
Most of our patients report noticeable results one to seven days after their appointment, the third day being the median. Having less protein than Botox, Dysport is broken down more slowly in the body, making the results longer lasting. A clinical trial published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery in 2009 reported that the effects could last for 13 months in some patients, compared to four months with Botox.
Do Dysport injections have side effects?
Dysport tends to have minor side effects such as headaches. If the drug diffuses too widely from the treated site, the eyebrows or eyelids may droop. To avoid such complications, it is important that only an experienced and trained professional administer Dysport.
